With love in our hearts we gather close, and because on the Earth plane a New Year will soon begin. We here realise that the human heart gets so very tired and weary with the old, with the things as they are, and ever must look forward to the future, to better things, with hope, with faith, and with trust.
But there are they who are not ever satisfied with what the morrow brings, because their hearts are filled with craving and desires for material things, and there are they who look forward to the so-called New Year because they hope to obtain a bigger house, a better car, a holiday further away from the homeland. They hope to meet influential people who can help them to achieve this or that, and these little ones will perhaps achieve many of their Earthly ambitions if their desire and their craving is strong enough, because the will is a magnet which draws unto itself these things which it desires, which it is determined to have.
But as you have been told every cause must have its effect, and all causes are caused at one time or another, through the will. Even those of you upon the Earth who suffer from various complaints and disease of the body, most of them have, at one time or another, in ages past perhaps, been caused through the misuse of the will and violation of the natural or psychic laws.
Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we are drawn to those whose craving and desires are given over to the spiritual. Those that have learned to ask, not that my will should be done, but that Thy will should be done. And no, dearly beloved, we ask you to remember as you make your so-called New Year wishes and resolutions, to forget, as we have always told you to do, to forget the self and by so doing, as you make your request, you will put aside all the personal responsibilities regarding these very things. You need not ask for this or for that. You need not wish for this or for that, if you can truthfully say, right from the depths of thine own being, 'Thy will be done'. Then already it is working within thee, around thee, and about thee.
Already you are drawing from the great universal love, a power which is absolute, which is pure and true, which will work, which can only work, for good for yourself and for all those with whom you come into contact, and for all the unseen thousands who benefit from your prayers.
When you pray for the sick, when you pray for the lonely, when you pray for those who cannot think correctly and who are making so many mistakes, the power, somehow or another will reach them if you say, 'Thy will be done'. The Father will find a way. He will find a way to use your thoughts and your prayers, your hands, your feet, and your speech, your thinking powers.
You remember we told you at one time how the living waters sometimes must dash against the rock of ignorance and fear. Because you have prayed for this one or that, your prayers are automatically answered even before you ask them if the will of the Father is thine only desire.
But because of ignorance and fear, jealousy and hate, and wrong thinking, the living waters must for a long time dash against this hard almost unbreakable rock. But eventually, through the constant wear, the rock will begin to break, to crumble, and to get less and less, and at the same time you are seeing this very thing happening before your eyes. When you pray for this one and that, and even as your prayers are being uttered, great calamities seem to fall upon this one for whom you pray, the struggle seems even greater, and the cloud around seems to thicken even while you pray.
Be of good cheer. The living waters are doing their work. The will of God is making itself felt. And even though it appears an ill wind, good, good will come out of it. Do not be mystified. Do not keep on 'how? 'Why? Where? and when?". Be still. You pray for stillness. You ask for peace of mind. Then try with all your heart, with all your mind, to be still.
And no, beloved, we know that the New Year will bring for you achievement, it will bring you peace if you honestly say without making any request, 'Thy will be done.' 'If it is thy will', make your request with these words following 'if it be thy will' and we promise you achievement, success, and peace. But we add, but we add, even as Christ said unto his disciples, 'Perhaps not as the world knows it.
But surely now, through the seeking and the teaching, surely you realise that it is impossible, living in the world, with worldly people, in the vibrations that are all around you, you cannot be at peace, dear children, with this, your world.
How can you? How can you be? And yet the true peace, the true love, and the true power which you are constantly tapping, through this desire to do the Father's will, will reflect upon your material, everyday life. Here and there you will see a reflection which will remind you that the Spirit is at work. You have seen this, you have seen it recently. You know it happens. This does not take your Earthly burden from you. You still have to work, to carry on, to be strong, and above all, conquer your natural tendencies, your lower human self. This is a long battle, and one which no doubt will continue until you come hence.
This transcript treats the New Year's resolution as a small case of a much larger question: what the will is actually for. Craving and desire, it says plainly, do work — "the will is a magnet which draws unto itself these things which it desires" — but every cause has its effect, and even illness is traced here to the will's misuse, at times reaching back across lives. Against this, the transcript sets a single substitution: not "my will be done" but "Thy will be done" — the request from the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:10), offered here as removing the need for any specific request at all, since surrendering the will already sets the same power working, without needing to be aimed at particular outcomes.
Its most demanding teaching concerns what answered prayer can actually look like. Praying "Thy will be done" for someone doesn't guarantee visible relief — sometimes, the transcript admits candidly, "great calamities seem to fall upon this one for whom you pray," the trouble appearing to deepen rather than lift even as the prayer continues. The image offered is patient rather than immediate: living water dashing against a rock of ignorance and fear, wearing it down only gradually, with the apparent worsening not a sign the prayer failed but evidence the water is still working. "Be of good cheer... do not keep on how, why, where, and when" — trust is asked for precisely where reassurance isn't available.
The transcript closes without offering an easy peace: prayer answered on these terms brings achievement and peace "perhaps not as the world knows it" — a phrase drawn from Christ's own words to his disciples (John 14:27) — and it says outright that ordinary daily burdens remain, that the struggle against one's own lower nature is "a long battle" likely to continue for the whole of life. What changes isn't the difficulty of the road, but what's drawn on to walk it.
