I thank you, dear friends, for giving me this opportunity to speak to you and to my ward and charge. I am very near to you as you make your daily round, as you talk to the sick and injured.
But I do not want you to feel that you owe me anything. It is wonderful to have a link with one on like vibrations upon the Earth plane. Because we can learn so very much through the mind of another to whom I am attuned. You see, my dear, when I was upon the Earth, I was so busy doing the things that I wanted to do, and things I liked doing. I liked to please myself. And I found when I passed hence although I felt I had been very clever, very sophisticated, and I did not consider myself a bad sort at all, I found, like nearly everyone else, that I had fallen short, that I had left undone the things that I should have done. And I felt, when I found myself awake, alive, with all my faculties, in this land of light and love, and old friends and new, an exciting world before me, with so many things to do. Oh, it was wonderful.
And then, after a time, when the excitement had abated, I began to think. I began to feel myself drawn down through the sad thoughts of others concerning my passing. These friends, that I had left upon the Earth, would think about me with sadness, would grieve and feel lonely. And, worst of all, they would imagine me in the grave, dead and gone. Then I would feel myself drawn to the side of that dear one, and I would stand, all my new-found health, joy, and happiness and peace, and I would stand and look, try to speak, try to make contact, try to tell this one and that that all was well, not to grieve, and that my life was so much better than anything they had ever known, or would ever know upon the Earth plane. And yet they could not hear me, could not see me. Sometimes I would see through their mind that they were a little happier, that the depression was passing, and I knew that in some way I had made a contact, that they would never be conscious of how or why it had happened. Therefore it is wonderful, and I am very grateful that I can talk to you in this way.
I wrote books, and I was very fond of writing, and you, I feel, have seen and held a book which I myself wrote. But I have found that there is a very, very important book which God has specially written for all his children, and I would ask you to study this even more closely than you have already done. It is the wonderful book of nature and written therein is the law of nature, and if you watch and follow closely, with great ease you will recognise more and more that the law of nature is perfect. You will see that everything that goes into the ground, dead in the palm of your hand, and yet when placed in the soil that is ready and prepared, it will bring forth a bloom, or a blossom, or a tree, or a shrub, of its own kind, and will give joy to all who have the eye to behold it.
But all this, all this is but a reflection or a shadow of reality and the Spiritual world. Here upon the Earth you must watch birth and death, change and decay, poverty and sickness because this is the only place where you can learn these specific things. All this is so necessary to one's training.
So I ask you to make the most of every experience, treat each experience like a stepping stone which will send you on to another and another across the river of life. Then, when you reach the other side, you can look back and you will know that you have truly tried, and that you have learned many wonderful things, and that you have to learn these things only once. It is worth going through all these exams, all the tests, even though sometimes you will be weary and heavy laden.
But the Spirit of Christ which is within you, will give you rest and comfort you. Even though you will only feel His peace for a little while because, at other times you will be surrounded and attacked by the vibrations of the sick, the poor, the needy, the jealous, and the lazy. But that peace will definitely be with you now and again, and then, when you get the glimpse into the world of reality. And we ask you to study the book of nature remembering that the law is absolutely perfect, and that all things come together for good, and as you sow, so shall you reap. Then you will begin to see the Spiritual manuscript, for you will never, while you are on the Earth, be able to close the book of nature. It is so essential, it is full of truth, It is an absolute guide to all the things which your Father has prepared for you in that real world.
You will find that nothing goes awry in nature. There are things which appear cruel but you will see, if you will look closely and study the more, that all things are in perfect balance. There is nothing out of place. It is only man that upsets the vibrations upon the Earth. When you can look above the natural into the Spiritual, you will draw to yourselves a certain power, a power of the Spirit. And you will be able, through this power, to overcome all physical, not exactly disabilities, because these can be caused quite naturally, if you study the book of nature, through hereditary traits, temperament and personality with which you were born.
But you have seen how this friend of ours, although you yourself, dear Micky, and others are amazed at the condition, and the effects of the condition, it is because she glimpses the truth. The true Spirit. It is the sea on which she sails the little craft which is carrying her on the sea of life has at its helm the truth. The truth, in as much as she can at this time, understand it, and much as she…
This transcript highlights the frustration often experienced by spirits who want to communicate with us -- standing beside a grieving friend, "try to speak, try to make contact," unheard and unseen, able only, sometimes, to lift a mood without the friend ever knowing why. It's a glimpse of the effort behind the reassurance these transcripts usually offer without showing its cost.
Its central instruction turns from the guide's own writing, in life, to "the book of nature" as a truer and more essential text — the reliable evidence that the law is perfect, visible in something as plain as a seed, apparently dead, brought to bloom once placed in prepared soil. Everything on Earth — birth, death, change, decay, poverty, sickness — is treated as necessary training rather than accident, each experience "a stepping stone" across "the river of life," to be learned from once and never repeated.
What's promised isn't constant peace but intermittent glimpses of it — "you will only feel His peace for a little while," between stretches of real difficulty and exposure to others' need — a pattern already familiar from earlier transcripts in this collection. Its close returns to the book of nature's authority on what looks like unfairness: apparent cruelty, on close study, resolves into balance, and what looks like disability or hardship is often simply "hereditary traits, temperament and personality" working as nature intends — not injustice, but the given shape a particular life was always going to take.
