You are beginning to understand how difficult it is for people who would find reality to know peace as the world knows it. And you can understand what Jesus meant when he said,
"I leave you my peace, but not as the world knows it”
And one cannot achieve peace of mind until one has learned wisdom and understanding.
And when one begins to understand, and to love in the God sense, then one begins to acquire the peace which passeth all understanding but is not as the world knows it. For peace to the people of the world who understand only the satisfying of the physical senses, these people must be happy one day and unhappy the next, simply because the things they want, the desires of their hearts are not real. They crave for those things which will perish and go back, as it were, to the dust from whence they came.
But the few, who take unto themselves the responsibilities which are inevitable for the seeker of truth, to go through, as it were, the different stages of development, on all levels, natural, psychic, and spiritual. All these experiences, which must be known before one can have understanding and wisdom, call for terrific endeavour and very, very difficult training. Therefore, when one tries to give this inner, well-earned peace of mind to those on the other level, however good or kind those people may be, they have not opened the psychic door of their mind and they have not truly asked for bread. They have not asked to become wise, and they do not require or desire, they do not desire spiritual enlightenment which will make them wise and help them to understand. So that it is very difficult for the one who can understand because they can see that which no one else can see. It is difficult to explain to this one or that why certain persons react to certain situations in this way or that.
And this is why the peace of mind through God can never be peace as the world knows it. But this peace will not change. It will not be one thing one day and disappear and become as nothing the next. It becomes undoubtedly, as one becomes a little wiser and develops a little understanding, it has got to cause, as we have told you before, frustrations and a certain amount of physical and mental frustration.
Because you cannot share your wisdom and understanding any more than you can share your faith, because the people around you do not want it. And you cannot give them that which they do not know anything about and which they do not, at this stage, desire.
That is why we ask you again and again, to be still, and to know, that as you have come to the stage of awakening, so will every other child of God. And that means every other human being that has been, that is in the human state and that is to come forth into the world, to learn as you have learned. It has taken countless ages, as you know time, for you to reach this stage of knowing, if only a little, of understanding only a little, but just a little is more precious than gold or rubies, frankincense and myrrh, and all the other so-called gifts of the world. This little can draw unto you all the material things that the world has to offer, if you need them, if you desire or need these things to help others. You are standing, as it were, in the gold mines, in the diamond mines themselves. In their midst. If you really need these things, then you have only to hold out your hand and these very things will be dropped into your waiting palms.
But you yourselves do not need them. And to give an unlimited supply of this clay of the Earth to all and sundry would simply destroy, not help, not create, not bring into being, and not help the helpless who refuse to help themselves. So be at peace and make your very own that little which is of spirit, that stone that you have brought into being through your way of life, through your thoughts, and through your prayers, and through your perseverance, and through your own faith. You cannot take another's faith, and you cannot give of your own.
But you must stand firm, and have the courage of your own convictions until the weak and the weary around you say, "That is the way. It has been shown unto me but I must walk my own path. I must seek the same prize as this one has sought. I must walk the same path. I must give up the craving and desires of earthly possessions as this one has. And until I honestly do not crave and do not want, I shall receive nothing. For I cannot be trusted with this thing of the earth, this wealth, if I should help to destroy the very children of the most high God”.
And so we want you to accept all all other things that are added onto you as just part and parcel of the gifts of the Father. For thou hast surely taken unto thyself first the things of the kingdom. And when one has done this one can be trusted even with the whole world, with all the treasures of the world. But this one is just the one who will not need it.
And we say again, you would not destroy. Your desire is to build not peace as the world knows it, but the quiet mind, the quiet content, the satisfaction of knowing that in everything, in every other human being, there is the spirit. There is thyself. The natures, the human natures, the human traits, the hereditary traits, all these things around the Spirit are of the flesh and will pass away. And you are not expected to like or to love these things, but if you know that you can link up with the spirit, through the spirit, then surely there is hope for all.
In your quiet time, in the silence, when you can truly appreciate this gift, this peace, this spiritual understanding, then, even though it does bring the frustrations and the tensions because you would share your treasure if there were the hands to grasp, but no, everyone will take of your worldly gifts because they can satisfy their craving with this, but because you have wisdom and understanding, then the supply for you yourself will always be equal to the demand, because you can be trusted to do this or that which is good in the sight of the Lord.
Be at peace. Fret not. Be still.
This transcript works through a real logical puzzle: why can't well-earned peace, wisdom, and understanding simply be given to those who need them, however kind or good they are? The answer given is precise — these things "will not change... will not be one thing one day and disappear the next," but they can only be received by someone who has already opened "the psychic door of their mind" and genuinely asked. Giving isn't withheld out of stinginess; the door itself only opens from the other side.
Its most striking argument concerns material wealth specifically, and takes an unexpected turn: someone who has genuinely put spiritual things first is described as standing "in the gold mines, in the diamond mines themselves" — able to draw material resources freely if genuinely needed to help others, precisely because they no longer crave them for their own sake. Trust with the world's treasures, on this account, isn't earned by proving discipline; it's simply the natural consequence of no longer wanting them — "this one is just the one who will not need it."
Its clearest statement of the collection's recurring frustration is unusually direct: "you would share your treasure if there were the hands to grasp" — the ache isn't reluctance to give, it's a readiness to give with no one yet prepared to receive. What's asked in response isn't resignation but standing firm, undiscouraged, as a visible example — "the weak and the weary around you" arriving, in their own time, at their own decision to walk the same path, rather than being led or given the answer directly.
