You ask in your prayers that you may come nearer to the Spirit of God and Love. Know you not that the Spirit is within you? Firm, strong, developed in its proper place. Acknowledged for what it is because you are aware of the power of love which is God.
And it is because of the Spirit awakened and alive within you that we repeat the words,
"Be still, and know that I am God."
This very stillness is the Spirit at work within you, and to draw from it one must be continuously still. At peace within. Quiet and full of faith. Even this, whilst you are still in the flesh, will not prevent the body, from the impact and from the wounds which come to it from the outside world. But that which is wounded, which carries the sears, is perishable. It will go back to the Earth from whence it came. But the spirit, as the sheath of the body falls away, will be absolute perfection, and can only be nurtured into this state by the inward stillness in the deep centre of one's being. The very spirit within.
And knowing this is a protection from all real evil. That which wounds the physical, even the physical mind, the hurt which comes through the knowledge of the awful so-called things which are going on in the outside world. Those things which are caused through man not seeking the peace that the Spirit is, but seeking for that peace of the world which is possessions, material things, power, power to wipe out, to overcome, to step upon that which is in his own way, therefore they are bartering the peace of the Spirit, the pearl of great price, the peace which passeth all understanding for the peace of owning, and having, and being better and above all others. They know not, they see not, that these things which they cherish, will go back to the Earth and become as nothing.
But the knowledge of the Spirit in the deep centre of one's own being, is the power to unleash the fountain of the living waters, which although one, through the physical condition, may have to stay in one place, the waters can flow forth through the mind, and cleanse and succour many that are far away, even those who you know not and yet are on the same vibration as far as the mind is concerned. And this power will help, and will bring comfort, and will heal.
Even the power that Jesus spoke of, "It is not I that doeth the work, it is the Father within me. I am in you, you are in me." It is really believing, really knowing that Jesus spoke the truth, and feeling in oneself this quiet, absolute peace in spite of the goings on in the outside world. It is invaluable, because if you think on these things you will realise that if every person, every individual, thought like this, when the morning came, peace would rule supreme throughout the world. But Jesus, great men, sages of old, have died, have left the Earth after preaching these very truths, and still the world is in chaos. Still there is turmoil. Still there are those in power ruthlessly destroying those without.
Therefore it must rest with the individual, it has got to rest with the individual. There is no other way. And there is nothing that the saviours and redeemers of the past have been able to do about one who will not see. But if you have the vision, treasure it. If you have the ear to hear the spiritual truth, if you have the mind to accept that which you cannot see. Then you are safe. Because this world is not a real thing. It is simply a training ground that you will leave, and you will realise that the work must go on until every individual knows that it is true that there is a great stillness, even while still in the body which can bring that peace.
And so you can see that for centuries, for aeons of time, there will be this very same work to be done. So how can you fret, how can you become anxious, in this moment of time. But here, in this little hut there are two individuals in the body who know. And in the world there are many others. And this unrest is causing, shall we say, fertile ground because people will have to turn within, because soon there will be nothing without. And even this, as terrible and awful as it seems at this moment of time, is evil working for good. For seek they must, if they would find. And only those that have sought or who are willing to seek, will find.
So be at peace. Be still. And know that you have no need to pray to get nearer to the Spirit, because it is within you, part of you, your inheritance which you have claimed. The same inheritance belongs to everyone, but only a few claim their inheritance, know their Father, understand the power of love.
This transcript addresses a prayer it treats as slightly mistaken in its own premise: asking to "come nearer" to the Spirit assumes distance where none exists — "know you not that the Spirit is within you? Firm, strong, developed in its proper place." "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10) is read not as instruction to approach something external, but as description of what happens when the already-present Spirit is simply allowed to be still and known.
Its sharpest social claim is that the world's chaos comes down to a single mistaken trade: bartering "the peace of the Spirit... for the peace of owning, and having, and being better than others" — material and positional peace substituted for the real thing, and destined, unlike it, to "go back to the Earth and become as nothing." The transcript is unusually blunt about the limits of even the greatest teaching to fix this at scale: Jesus and the sages of old preached exactly this truth and died, "and still the world is in chaos" — proof, on this account, not that the teaching failed, but that it was never going to work collectively. "It must rest with the individual. There is no other way."
Its closing turn treats present unrest almost hopefully — not denying how "terrible and awful" the world's condition seems, but suggesting that turmoil itself creates "fertile ground," forcing people inward once external comforts fail them, "evil working for good." What's asked of the reader, in the meantime, isn't activism or despair but simply continued stillness — patience measured in "centuries, for aeons of time" rather than the urgency of any single troubled moment, and the reminder that the inheritance being sought was never actually withheld, only unclaimed.
