We would bring you words of comfort on this day. Because it is only natural that in any work any person upon the Earth or in the world of Spirit accomplishes, as they do this work or that it is only to be expected that they should now and again, ask this question. "How am I progressing? Is my work satisfactory? Am I doing the right thing? Can those in higher places who know this work better than I, how do they feel about the way I am doing this particular job?"
And the answer must come. For anyone who is watching over other people, and who are sincerely interested in the job at hand, will gladly come forward and encourage and enlighten the one concerned concerning his progress. And with humbleness of Spirit we come to answer these very same questions which you ask from time to time.
And you have been told concerning the state of the rose and the state of the stone. And you have understood. Admitted we can see that there are boundless mysteries still, and many secrets which have not been unfolded, unto you that occasionally puzzle and cause a little anxiety. But all is well. And you must remember as you have been told so many times that the mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceeding small. And little by little, understanding and wisdom are being made your own. And now we place you in the watch tower, and in this place only those who have to a certain degree, acquired the inner vision, the ability to see with the inner eye and to hear with the inner ear can stand in this place. We want you to imagine this watch tower a little above the Earth. It is a mental state. And even a soldier of olden times would climb into the watch tower and be able to see the surrounding country for many miles. He would know when anyone, enemy, friend, or foe, traveller or merchant, beggar or king was approaching the place where he stood. And he could give warning to others at that certain place.
Now this tower stands between the mental or psychic realm and the spiritual. It is removed from the physical, from the material, and from the Earth. And it has the power, the necessary means, and the equipment, to send forth messages to all the guardians and the ministering angels who are helping, and working, and protecting you. Working for you and guiding your efforts and also those who receive your prayers and your thoughts.
Because you have access to this place means that you have passed certain examinations and certain tests. Only those who are able to see and hear, can arrive at this place. We want to stress this point. No-one in these realms, in this world, can, as it were, gatecrash or break into. This must be a wonderful and comforting thought. For in your world, upon your Earth plane you see so much that is unfair and, you feel, unjust. You see so many unworthy ones with this and with that. You see those people who, through influence, through the know-how, find themselves in comfortable positions, even in places of authority, and you know that there has been no merit here, just favouritism, unfairness, and so-called influence. But those that understand the things of spirit, realise from the very beginning, as soon as their mind is open to these things, who begin to learn concerning the mystery and the power of love, who realise that the keynote to this power, to this absolute is humility, meekness, loving-kindness, absolute sincerity, love of truth.
Then this one would have no desire to get that which did not rightfully belong to him. And this one must come along the path step by step. This one must walk through the long, dark, night of the soul. Must experience the long stays in the wilderness. Must feel absolutely at one time or another, completely and absolutely alone. And in this great loneliness, in the great darkness, find the comfort and the light, in the great, dark, depth of his own being. In the great silence. Digging and delving until at last he comes to the place where his treasure lies. And bringing it forth, possessing it, and knowing it to be his own, and then finding, that even though this thing of great price is his very own, realising that in the material world, nobody wants it. It is precious only to himself.
But, from these Spirit realms, from the world of great teachers, healers, and the lovers of men's souls, these can see radiating from this great pearl a lustre, an aura. And they know that this state or that state has been reached. And that the time has now come when that one can indeed bring his treasure to where it will be appreciated. And it is in the watch tower. And there the windows are all around, and the vision is wide and clear. And children, there is nothing, absolutely nothing to fear.
But, out on the great plains of the world, which are stretched out before your vision, although you are perfectly safe, you are not blind and you are not deaf. You will see many ugly and terrifying things happening, many bones being chewed in the deserts of greed, avarice, jealousy, and hate. Many innocent victims on the great seas and the great oceans of life, being overturned through poverty and wars and all these waves that are alien to God, and to love. Many broken bodies, as it were, dashed against the rocks of ugly bitterness.
But you in your watch tower must stand firm, and send forth into the realms with which you have the power to communicate, the thoughts, the pictures, of what you see, and help in one way or another will be given. You cannot, because all searchers for truth know that they must work in one way or another, for ever, you cannot be idle or bored as we have told you before. But to stand, and be able to see all these sights, and only those who have reached this degree of spirituality, progress, are equipped to stand in this watch tower and to see and to hear. But, there is consolation, you will see and hear not only the planes, the deserts, the oceans, that lie beneath you, but at times you will hear the music, and see the visions, and the results that love can create and bring about in the other world. That world for which the watch tower, this special place, this special state was built. It is a special job, a special work, and it is very, very, important. For even as the Earthly watch tower is very important for all the vast army, the people that are in the fort, those that need to be protected, so indeed, this watch tower of the mind, this state.
We have found it rather difficult to get our message across as we should like to have done because of the limitations in the medium's mind. But we feel that we have done very well and that you understand.
Now there must be no doubt at all about what we have said. You will see, as you are seeing daily, the ugliness all around you, you are receiving the psychic pressure of all these things in the outside world. Stand firm in your watch tower. All the equipment that you need is at hand. We receive every thought, every prayer. And we are hoping that many more will pass the tests whereby the match tower can be prepared for them. And all these round the Earth will be of great importance and of great help. Great changes are about to take place in your world. And we need more and more of those who have been willing to seek and who have found.
Do not feel, do not feel that we are praising you and that there is room for personal conceit. You could not be in this position, you could not be listening to these words, if you had been, then it would be impossible for us to send these thoughts into your aura. Remember this is one place where one cannot be fooled. Only that which is, is seen and recognised. Be at peace.
The watch tower is a mental and spiritual state, reached only after real work — "digging and delving" for a treasure that, once found, is valued in the seeker's own being. It stands between the psychic and the spiritual, giving a clear, elevated view of the world's suffering — greed, war, poverty, "bones being chewed in the deserts" — without the one standing there being pulled down into it. This is close to the watchman figure in Ezekiel 33: posted to see danger approaching and sound warning, responsible not for preventing the danger itself but for seeing clearly and communicating what is seen.
The transcript is emphatic that this position cannot be gained by favour, influence, or borrowed merit — "no-one can gatecrash" — only by having genuinely walked "the long, dark night of the soul" (echoing St John of the Cross, named directly a few transcripts back) and come out the other side with humility rather than pride intact. It answers directly to the everyday sense of unfairness — watching the undeserving prosper through connections rather than merit — with the promise that here, at least, "one cannot be fooled: only that which is, is seen and recognised."
Crucially, reaching the watch tower doesn't mean being shielded from what's painful — the one who stands there sees the world's ugliness more clearly, not less, and is warned explicitly against pride: this vantage exists for service, to relay what is seen so help can be sent, not for personal comfort or status. But there is real comfort offered alongside the clarity: from the same tower comes music and vision of what love achieves elsewhere — reassurance that the watch itself is not endless vigilance over darkness alone.
