"Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Jesus spoke these words because he understood the need for companionship, for comfort and for peace, He knew that all children of God, as all human beings are, all children of the Divine Parent, whose Spirit is absolutely perfect, they know it not. He knew that even those who love God, who seek and search for truth, at times must be weary and heavy burdened. And yet it is because at times we are weary and heavy laden it is because we are being trained here for those higher realms, for those places that we are preparing for ourselves in heaven. It is because of the wonderful things that are before us, that lie ahead, that we are at times weary and heavy laden. Because only at such times do we realise how we need the love of God.
For as you look about you, as you make your daily way, you see time and time again those little ones who seem to have all the good things of life and how often are these little ones selfish and hard. You see no softness, no love in their nature, and you wonder why. Why can this one and that be blessed with all the good things of life. Their troubles and tribulations seem to be self-made because they crave for this and they crave for that, and yet they seem to have everything that would make so many better people, as you think, happy and contented.
But envy not those little ones, for the time will come perhaps, when they are free from the body and find they are in a world of poverty. They have nothing. They have not been to the spiritual bank during their life-time and put in the only thing which can create peace of mind, power, is love. Which is God. And so, my little ones, I would have you know that you have stored the treasures of your heart, the treasures of your mind in the spiritual bank which neither moth nor rust can corrupt. And because this is your very own, and because you have earned it and made it your own, you have placed it in the spiritual coffers and it is there for all time for you to draw on.
And you go to this spiritual bank when you are quiet, and you must send out but one thought and this is your pass book. This is the key, and immediately that love, that God, that Spirit of Christ that is within yourself, goes out to those for whom you pray. And you may say,
"I have tried, I have done my best, and yet, on my very doorstep, in my own home, there is unrest. There seems to be that thing which is alien to God, to love, and to peace of mind."
And we say unto you, "Thou hast been entrusted with this responsibility, this is part of your training." and we gather close to advise and to help, because we can see that precious store of love that you have made your own. And we too can use this store, we too can take from this substance which you have created.
And although it seems that your prayers are not heard, because this one and that does not respond in the Spirit of kindness and love, we say to you that the greatest rock will one day yield to the living waters lapping continuously at its side. The very waters of love and faith, tolerance and humility, never cease in their work and you can believe us when we say that all things come together for good.
And if you are weary and heavy laden and anxious, and at times depressed concerning these things, remember that Christ understood, and understands because he called to such as you when he said, "Come unto me". Because he knew and knows that all the people who search, all the people who seek through love for love, must needs be time and time again in need of help and comfort. Do not be afraid at times to go to your own spiritual bank. Then you are very tired, which is perfectly natural because of the service you render to others, sometimes you must go and take from this bank for yourself.
Try to remember that Jesus said also that the sick and the poor are always with you, to burden you, to pull you down, to drain you dry. But I am with you only for a little time".
And it is so, beloved, it is so. For the most part you are weary and heavy laden and tired, because you cannot lift up these little ones who are asleep spiritually, and you know from your experiences, that too many things which they seem to suffer from is caused through their lack of love in their own hearts. Their own spiritual coffer is empty for they have put nothing in and cannot take anything out. And you see the various diseases of body and mind which are caused through those things which are alien to God and to love. Selfishness, jealousy, and spite, all these things are the cause in the first instance of many, not all but of many diseases of the body and mind. But we say to you," Take heart. Be of good cheer." Because if you answer us truthfully when we ask "Do you ever put anything into the bank of love?" your answer must be, because we can see and we know, the answer in "Yes".
And as the person with material possessions feels a sense of security, because in the material banks of the world he has the power of money, he's sure that he can go and draw out. So can you be confident that that which is your own, all that love which has been created through your service, through your patience, through your tolerance, is your very own and can be withdrawn, taken out, and used at any time. And this, remember, can never rust or become corrupt. It is the spirit, it is that which will remain forever. It is that which, when you pass hence will be recognised for what it is, in the real world of light and love. And then you shall be with those of like vibrations, of like mind, who think and feel as you do yourself. And then, together with the added power, shall you be able to go forth and with just a thought, bring comfort and peace. Whereas now, you have to use your body and your brain and you have to carry with you all the psychic influences which attack you, as you go amongst this one and that without spiritual enlightenment. Because you have to go amongst those that are spiritually asleep, unaware, ignorant, and this you must feel, you must feel at this time because you are on these vibrations, you are in this world, but only to learn, only to accept, and only to overcome. So be at peace and know you this: we are aware of your problem. and you will see that one day everything was in the great plan for your own spiritual progress and enlightenment.
Fear not, for all the little ones around you are not your own children, not your own relations, not your own friends, but the children of God who understands all their faults and failings. Every hair of every head is numbered. So do your best. Pray, and keep your faith, for Jesus said, "I am with you unto the end of the world."
Burden yourself not with feelings of guilt, of remorse. This is a waste of time and energy. Answer the question in your own heart truthfully.
"Have I done my best? Do I try to love? Am I tolerant?" and the answer will be 'Yes'.
This is your spiritual security. This is your balance in the spiritual bank. Fear not. Love on with a great faith. Be still and do not fret that you are personally responsible. You are not.
Come unto me, all ye that are weary and heavy laden" (Matthew 11:28) is offered here not as an invitation to those who've failed to find peace, but as recognition from someone who understood that even the sincerest seeker must sometimes be tired — weariness, on this account, is not a sign of falling short of the path, but evidence of walking it. Envy of those who seem to have "all the good things of life" without love or softness is answered plainly: such people have not "been to the spiritual bank," and whatever they lack now will show clearly once the body no longer masks it.
The transcript's governing image is a spiritual bank — treasures of love, patience, and service stored where "neither moth nor rust can corrupt" (Matthew 6:20), available to be drawn on by thought alone, both for others' benefit and, importantly, for one's own when exhausted. Prayers that seem unanswered are compared to water against rock: not wasted, only slow, since "the greatest rock will one day yield to the living waters lapping continuously at its side."
Its closing turn addresses guilt directly and firmly, refusing it room: "burden yourself not with feelings of guilt, of remorse. This is a waste of time and energy." The measure offered isn't outcomes achieved in others, but only three honest questions answered from one's own heart — "have I done my best? Do I try to love? Am I tolerant?" — and the explicit reassurance, unusually direct for this collection, "you are not" personally responsible for those who remain asleep, however much care is given to them.
