Let us unite in love. And let us be as one in our purpose, in our devotion to our Father, God. And let us think of all those people upon the Earth plane who fall in love with another person. And who unite and become as one in the flesh. And we would have you think of Jesus the Christ as a bridegroom. And it has been said that thou knowest not when the bridegroom cometh. But thou shalt know, when thou art in the bridal chamber with the bridegroom himself.
From the beginning, the lover of your soul has wooed you ardently. He has implored you and beseeched you to be at one with Himself. So many times you have looked at this one and that and you have seen their happiness. And you have been glad for their joy. And yet, the very sacred conditions of holy matrimony have been going on in your own being.
And the creator of love itself has been your wooer. The one that would take you into his own heart. And he has laid at your feet the most precious of gifts. This love, this so-called joy, that you have witnessed with other people, is nothing in comparison to this state which you could and will make your very own.
For this matrimony, this act upon the Earth plane of two people being joined together is but a shadow of the real. When wisdom and love come together, then there is great rejoicing.. for these two have set in the holy temple not made with hands. In the sacred shrine where the soul abides, deep in the being of the individual. The Christ Spirit is joined with the person, with the individual, with the personality, with thee. And at long last the lover is satisfied.
And think you as to the offspring of such a holy and sacred union. Understanding, compassion, love, beauty, perfection, and above all, a nature so beautified, so changed, so now, beloved, so now, so wonderful. Even the miracle of a new-born babe is not as great as this offspring of a sacred union, God and man.
When at last the arms and heart of an Earth child, whilst still here on Earth, is opened to embrace and to join together through all eternity with the Creator of all creation, the Christ spirit, the bridegroom, is at peace, perfectly satisfied. This is holy matrimony. Be it man or woman, or even a child. When this change takes place, then has one fulfilled his or her mission. And such a one has obeyed the commandment, "Go ye forth and multiply." Multiply goodness, grace, righteousness, peace, love, harmony. And in the heart of this one there is the perfect holy state, the place, the haven of peace. Protect this homestead with all that you have. Let nothing enter in. There will be many wolves that will howl at the door of your heart. But if this union has been made you will listen to the baying of the so-called wolves, jealousy, hate, spite, avarice, and foolishness and stupidity of all kids. But your door will be firmly closed and your heart will be replenished and peace will abide therein. And you will count your children one by one and each one will be a blessing.
See you into the deeper truths, recognise the substance and the shadow. All is well. You have lost nothing, but you have gained the world.
This transcript takes the language of romantic love and marriage — familiar, longed-for, understood by everyone — and uses it as the truest available image for the soul's union with God. Human marriage, precious as it is, is "but a shadow of the real": the real marriage is the Christ Spirit joined with the individual soul, in "the holy temple not made with hands." Its offspring isn't a child but a transformed nature — understanding, compassion, love, beauty — called here greater than even the miracle of birth.
This same bridal language for the soul's union with God runs through the Christian mystical tradition — Teresa of Ávila's "spiritual marriage" in The Interior Castle, and John of the Cross's love poetry to God in the Spiritual Canticle — both drawing, as this transcript implicitly does, on the Song of Songs read as the soul's love song to its Creator. Once this union is made, the transcript says, the heart becomes a guarded home: jealousy, spite, and fear may howl at the door like wolves, but they cannot enter where peace already abides.
And this quote is worth dwelling on:
"Even the miracle of a new-born babe is not as great as this offspring of a sacred union, God and man."
